An Eastpointe Parent "We found Eastpointe High School through another student. My son's father and I were at our wits end with the school system in Tucson. My son had been bullied and ridiculed by the students in his past two schools to the point of nearing physical violence. He was not concentrating in school and frankly hated school. We were on the verge of looking for a private boarding school when we decided to give Eastpointe a try through a recommendation from a friend. Our son liked the students and they treated him with respect and did not ridicule him in any way. That was only the beginning. He was put on an individualized academic program that allowed him to work at his pace (just what he needed). Though we were nervous and concerned, Debbie Douglas, the special education director, was wonderful. She understood our predicament with my son needing to complete High School and worked with us every step of the way. She was always available when we needed her and showed kindness, caring and knowledge. When academic requirement were completed, Kenneth Nobles, Vocational Achievement Coordinator, was on hand to help my son in the trials and tribulations of a first job. Ken was also kind and caring and held my son accountable for his actions. Our son likes Ken and he is a great male role model. When the job ended after two months, Debbie Douglas encouraged and assisted my son in putting together a resume, gave him concrete suggestions on how to look for a job, interview skills and how to fill out a job application. Personally, I feel the real life experience you allowed my son to have while still in High School was invaluable. After very expensive private school education, your school was a refreshing change with caring, real people who do not have a hidden agenda. From my observations, Eastpointe is wholly committed to serving the young adults of our community who otherwise would not have a chance.
