 Our HistoryOur founder Larry Simmons, had a dream when he founded Eastpointe High School. He wanted to create a safe learning environment that fostered a feeling of community for Tucson-area teenagers, where they could gain the skills to succeed in life. Simmons established Eastpointe High School six years ago and in that time it has grown from having 17 students and three teachers, to being 325 students strong. About Charter Schools Charter schools in Arizona are public, state-funded educational institutions. Charter schools were created through legislation in 1994, and contract with a school district or the State Board for Charter Schools to provide an educational service. Charter schools provide parents and students with an academic alternative to a traditional school setting, without having to charge tuition. All charter schools are held to the same high academic standards as district schools, and award high school diplomas that are equal in value to those given out by traditional schools.
