 Our HistoryOur founder Larry Simmons had a dream when he opened Eastpointe High School. He wanted to create a safe learning environment that fostered a feeling of community for Tucson-area teenagers, where they could gain the skills needed to succeed in life. Simmons established Eastpointe High School 11 years ago and in that time it has grown from 17 students and three teachers, to being 225 students strong. About Charter Schools Charter schools in Arizona are public, state-funded educational institutions. Charter schools were created through legislation in 1994 and contract with a school district or the State Board for Charter Schools to provide educational services. Charter schools provide parents and students with an academic alternative to traditional school settings, without having to charge tuition. All charter schools are held to the same high academic standards as district schools and award high school diplomas that are equal in value to those of district schools.
